He worked internationally and spent much of his life in France and the United States. His style developed from expressive realism to more symbolic and surrealist work. Van Leyden was often inspired by social themes, psychology and spirituality. He exhibited worldwide, including in Paris, New York and Amsterdam, and collaborated with other well known artists of his time.
